Extrusion Lab Technician

We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Extrusion Lab Technician to join our team at the state-of-the-art John J. Farber Technology & Innovation Center. This position provides hands-on technical support for a wide range of activities, including extruder setup and operation, material forming, testing, and more.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience operating an extruder and a strong interest in materials, their properties, and customer applications. In addition to technical expertise, excellent communication skills are required for effective collaboration with vendors, customers, and internal teams.

Responsibilities:
• Set up and operate lab-scale extruders across a variety of polymer types
• Support technical work requests by planning and performing tests, analyzing results, and reporting findings
• Collect data, conduct material testing, and create samples using lab extrusion lines and associated equipment
• Analyze product defects using laboratory methods and equipment; support investigations of returned customer products
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
• Assist with internal product trials, including material preparation and equipment operation
• Prepare and distribute detailed technical reports
• Contribute to method development, modifications, and validation of new testing protocols
• Comply with ISO/IEC 17025 standards as outlined in the TIC Quality Manual
• Support ongoing TIC activities, including product design and development projects, quality audits, and process evaluations
• Maintain accurate documentation of material data, product approvals, trial outcomes, and lab activities
• Manage inventory and place orders for raw materials and lab supplies as needed


Requirements
• Prior experience with extrusion processes is required
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to consistently exhibit professionalism in conduct and communication, as this position will be regularly communicating with customers and other outside contacts
• Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving abilities, a strong work ethic, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks independently
• College coursework is beneficial; a background in Chemical or Plastics Engineering is highly preferred
• Exceptional attention to detail and record-keeping skills
• Proven ability to prioritize, plan, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external customers, including manufacturing, sales, and management personnel
• Solid basic math skills and High school diploma or GED required
